Energy is confusing; community solar is even more complicated. We lay out the facts and empower communities to get involved in their local energy systems and make informed energy-related decisions that are healthier for their families and for our world.
Sometimes a community or household wants clean energy, but they are unable to access it. We find out what the roadblocks are and innovate solutions. Our latest financial tool, The EnergyScore, is a machine-learning-based qualification metric replacing FICO scores.

That’s why we build coalitions with other community groups to advocate for inclusive clean energy policies. We are active in policy discussions across the Northeast.
Most solar developers and financiers require individuals to have FICO scores of 680-750 to enroll in community solar, thereby excluding over half of all Americans. In partnership with the Department of Energy and researchers at MIT and Stanford, Solstice developed the EnergyScore. The EnergyScore is both more accurate than credit scores in predicting bill payment behavior and more inclusive of low-to-moderate income houses.
Solstice has partnered with a coalition of organizations called MultiplySolar to bring community solar to NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments. This program will provide clean, low-cost energy and monthly savings to NYCHA residents throughout the city.
Solstice partnered with local Southeastern Massachusetts (SEMA) organizations to build a low-to-moderate income community solar project. The monthly savings from this project were particularly helpful for SEMA’s elderly community who depend on energy-intensive medical devices and those living in outdated housing stock equipped with inefficient and expensive appliances.
