STAFF POSITIONS

  • Title: Technical Lead
  • Compensation: Equity and stipend
  • Term:  90-day provisional period, with opportunity to transition to permanent staff. 
  • Position overview:  Solstice is expanding its service offerings through the creation of a digital platform that will seamlessly manage all of the customer-facing activities in the community solar space: customer outreach and onboarding, utility integration, account management, and consumer engagement.  The primary task of the Technical Lead will be to develop the strategy around platform development, including designing the product roadmap and managing the development team.
  • Qualifications: 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical EngineeringPassion for and working knowledge of renewable energy
    • 5-7 years of work experience after graduation
    • Based in or willing to move to the greater Boston area
    • Expertise in and/or previous experience with Meteor, React, MongoDB, and Postgres
    • Experience with version control systems, e.g. Git
    • Amenable to the demands of a start-up environment, such as long and variable work hours, tight deadlines, and limited supervision
    • Passion for and working knowledge of renewable energy
  • Additional qualifications for this role include: 
    • Experience with Underscore and Lodash; experience with Foundation or Bootstrap
    • Ability to utilize graphics software to design and layout visual elements of platform
    • Previous experience with managing software engineers and/or other staff

  • Title: Communications and Development Associate
  • Compensation: $30-35k, commensurate with experience
  • Term: 90-day contract, with opportunity to transition to permanent staff
  • Time commitment: Full-time
  • Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
  • Position overview: Solstice seeks an enterprising individual with a knack for the written word and visual storytelling to manage our growing brand and communications efforts. The role offers significant responsibilities in an award-winning clean energy startup. 
  • Primary responsibilities will include:
    • Formulate online marketing strategy and analyze its effectiveness
    • Generate digital content including social media posts, blog posts, press releases, newsletters, online ads, and videos
    • Create marketing collateral such as flyers, yard signs, and descriptive blurbs 
    • Manage company website and optimize pages for relevant keywords
    • Collect testimonials from customers
    • Draft applications for grants and business competitions
    • Identify and engage with potential funders
    • Compose progress reports to existing funders
    • Take notes on calls, webinars, and meetings
    • Assist with general administrative tasks
  • Qualifications for this role include:
    • Progress toward or attainment of bachelor’s degree, at a minimum
    • Excellent writing skills a must

  • Title: NY Market Research Fellow
  • Compensation: Unpaid
  • Time commitment: ~12 hours/week for 6 weeks (anticipated project completion is early to mid-December)
  • Location: New York, NY
  • Position overview: In anticipation of organizational growth into New York City and state in the months ahead, we are looking for one or more highly-motivated individuals to design and conduct a survey of customer preferences with regard to community solar products. The individual(s) will be responsible for undertaking the planning and execution of the survey from the initial stages to its completion. The position is a results-oriented role with significant opportunity for growth and autonomy.
  • Primary responsibilities will include:
    • Designing customer preference survey methodology and authoring survey questions.
    • Problem-solving to mitigate challenges to data quality, i.e. respondent selection bias. 
    • Conducting Internet research to provide recommendation on optimal digital platform for survey dissemination.
    • Recruiting survey participants and distributing survey to households in NYC, central NY, and upstate NY, digitally and/or in-person.
    • Conducting in-person interviews to collect qualitative and/or quantitative data.
    • Tabulating and analyzing raw data using a statistical software package, i.e. R, Stata, SPSS, etc. and spreadsheet tools, i.e. Excel and Google Sheets.
    • Formulating final report, including written analysis, infographics (i.e. graphs, tables, etc.), and recommendations, and presenting findings to Solstice team.
  • Qualifications for this role include:
    • Prior professional engagement with survey design, administering interviews, and quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis.
    • Demonstrated comfort with public engagement.
    • Proficiency in a statistical analysis software package (i.e. R, Stata, SPSS, etc.) is preferred.
    • Ability and willingness to travel to NYC, central, and upstate NY to collect survey data. (Access to a car is preferred, but not required.)
    • Extraordinary attention to detail, highly-motivated, creative, proactive, team-oriented, client-facing relationship builder that seeks to work outside of a cubicle. 

  • Title: Community Outreach Coordinator - NY
  • Compensation: Base stipend plus commission-based incentives
  • Term: 90-day contract, with opportunity to transition to permanent staff
  • Time commitment: Full-time
  • Location: New York
  • Position overview: In anticipation of rapid organizational growth in the months ahead, we are looking for highly-motivated individuals to expand our organization's community outreach capabilities. The position is a results-oriented role with significant opportunity for professional growth and autonomy.
  • Responsibilities will include:
    • Designing and executing a data-driven sales strategy directed at helping New York households adopt solar energy
    • Conducting outreach to and building relationships with community organizations, including households of worship, workplaces, community centers, schools, and service organizations
    • Interfacing with community leaders and stakeholders to help their networks switch to solar
    • Conducting outreach to build awareness among New York households interested in solar power
    • Supporting monitoring of progress to sales goals
  • Qualifications: 
    • Previous professional experience in community organizing and/or outbound sales.  Previous sales or political campaign experience preferred, as is a comfort with public engagement.
    • Ability to articulate Solstice’s value proposition to households and communities with passion and energy
    • Knowledge of/relationships with community organizations in the state of New York
    • Ability and willingness to travel on a frequent basis
    • Willingness to work evenings and weekends
    • Access to a car
    • Extraordinary attention to detail, highly-motivated, creative, proactive, team-oriented, self-starting and eager to work outside of an office setting
