Americans use more energy than the citizens of almost any other country, and we have the tenth highest per-person carbon emissions. This means that if we want to avoid the worst consequences of human-caused climate change, solar needs to go mainstream in America.
Fortunately, everyday Americans are on board with this transition, and overwhelmingly support solar energy. There’s only one problem: approximately four out of every five of us can’t install solar on our rooftops.
Community solar is already beginning to solve this problem, by bringing solar energy to households that don’t want to install solar on their rooftop, or whose rooftops don’t see enough sunlight to justify it. But beyond these factors, community solar has the potential to bring solar energy to the millions of Americans who experience financial barriers to going solar.
