How it Works

1. When you subscribe to community solar, you’re subscribing to a share of a local solar farm. You earn solar credits that bring down your energy bills.
2. The electricity produced by the solar farm flows into the electric grid. You receive your electricity from your utility company as usual.
3. You pay for the energy produced by your share of the solar farm at a guaranteed discount rate.

No, you do not need to switch. You keep your existing utility account and continue to receive electricity as you normally do.

When you sign up with Solstice, you’ll input your address and utility account information. Solstice can then reserve you a share of the solar farm that matches your typical energy use. You can connect to your utility by either logging in to your utility account directly in our platform, or by uploading a bill.

When community solar panels produce electricity, it gets fed right into the electric grid like any other energy source, and you receive electricity the same as always. The only difference is it’s a little cheaper and cleaner than before.

Solar is finally cheaper to produce than other traditional energy. States that offer community solar want to incentivize a transition to clean energy, and community solar programs create the financial structures that make it truly affordable. That’s how community solar subscribers receive a monthly discount. Solstice bills you for the energy produced by your share of the solar farm at a set discounted rate, and this discount brings down your overall electric bills.

Once you’ve signed up, you have officially reserved your spot on the local solar farm. When the panels are turned on and actively producing power for the grid, you’ll start to receive solar credits on your bill.
