Why do I still get a bill from my utility?
Your utility company still delivers your power every day – and we’re grateful to them for that! Community solar just earns you credits that reduce the amount you owe them for that power.

Instead of being built on your own property, community solar farms are built in a central location so local residents like you can enroll to receive their benefits at no added cost.
Rooftop solar is wonderful if you can do it! However, 80% of Americans cannot access rooftop solar because they rent their home, their roof faces the wrong way, or they can't afford to install panels. Community solar lets you support local solar and save on electricity with no roof required.

Not quite everyone just yet. We’re working on it! Community solar makes clean energy accessible to all kinds of people: homeowners, renters, small and large businesses, nonprofits, municipalities – the list goes on. But community solar programs are set up state by state, and some state programs have extra rules around who is eligible. For instance, you may need to have a certain utility company, or fall below a certain household income.
We make it easy to find out whether there’s a project for you. The easiest way to start is to pop in your zip code! We’ll tell you whether we have solar farms nearby that will let you hop aboard clean energy.
The short answer is: it depends! Rooftop solar has the potential to bring you much greater long-term savings, because owning your own panels can allow you to zero out your entire electric bill – or just about, anyway. However, it also comes with the cost of purchasing and installing equipment, so it usually takes 5+ years to even get paid back for your initial expense. Then, at that point, you start truly saving.
Community solar, on the other hand, gives you steady savings from the start, with no risk of paying more by participating. This makes for greater short to medium-term savings, while giving you greater flexibility.
When as your solar farm starts producing energy for your home or business, your savings will kick in! Here’s what you can expect:
If your solar farm’s still being built: Hang tight. You’ll start earning credits once the project is up and running. We’ll keep you posted via email on your project’s construction timeline and we’ll let you know when your first credits are coming as it powers up!
If your solar farm’s already live: You’ll usually see your first credits (and savings) show up within 2-3 billing cycles. It takes a month or two for your solar share to produce credits on your behalf and for your utility to apply those credits to your account.
If all farms are full right now: We’ll add you to our waitlist so you can grab a spot as soon as one opens up.
Either way, it pays to sign up now. There’s no cost, and the sooner you enroll, the sooner you’ll get your savings when they do come through!
Since all you pay for is your solar credits, and you pay for them at a fixed discount, you’re guaranteed to save money for as long as your solar farm produces energy. And there’s no risk that you’ll ever pay MORE as a community solar subscriber than you would otherwise.
But in full transparency: if a meteor hits your solar farm (hey, it could happen), your solar farm won’t produce any energy, and you won’t earn any credits. In that case you’d just pay your electric bill like you do now. No extra costs, and no savings, either.
Yes! There’s nothing to install, no fee to enroll, and no fee to cancel. The only thing you pay for is the solar credits you receive – at a locked in discount that guarantees savings.
